作品受到 Barbara Kruger 的 “I Shop Therefore I Am” 啟發,進一步思考:當代人是否也在不知不覺中,把自己當成商品經營?
In a society that appears to offer endless freedom of choice, our decisions are still constantly shaped by market systems, consumer culture, and prevailing aesthetics. Products are no longer simply objects we purchase; they have also become part of the way we construct and express our identities.
We seem to live in an age of “I shop, therefore I am.” Personal value, individuality, emotions, and even dreams can be packaged, displayed, measured, and transformed into commodities that fit market expectations.
Inspired by Barbara Kruger’s “I Shop Therefore I Am,” this work explores how people today may unconsciously begin to manage themselves as products.
From the personal image we present on social media, to the skills we market in the workplace, even our thoughts, emotions, and lifestyles can seem to be branded, packaged, and assigned value.
The work asks: in an era where consumer culture and self-presentation are deeply intertwined, are we truly constructing our identities, or are we gradually turning ourselves into products that are easier to market and consume?
